I thought I was doing a good thing by trying to wire my juniper bonsai last summer. I used 2mm aluminum wire, which I later found out was a bit too thick for the delicate branches. At first, everything seemed fine as I started shaping the branches. But I got a little overexcited and left the wire on for too long. I guess I forgot that branches can thicken quicker than you think in the summer. When I finally decided to remove it, I noticed some scars from where the wire had started biting into the bark. I had to cut back a couple of branches that were damaged, which was a bummer. Now, I check my wired branches every couple of weeks and use thinner wire when it’s on the smaller side. It's all a learning process, right?
