So has anyone else here tried that soil mix from bonsaibroz? I've been at this bonsai thing for a couple of years, but I'm still trying to find a soil mix that works for me. Someone on a different forum was raving about bonsaibroz's blend, so I figured, why not give it a shot?

I ordered a bag and used it to repot my Chinese Elm just last month. Gotta say, I was kinda impressed. The mix had a really nice balance of Akadama, pumice, and lava rock. Good drainage, which is super important, but it still retained enough moisture to keep things hydrated in between waterings. The only thing I did notice was that some of the finer particles seemed to settle at the bottom of the pot, which I wasn't expecting. Not sure if that's a common thing or if I just got a bag with more fines than usual. So far, my Elm seems happy, lots of fresh buds popping up now that it's spring, but time will tell if it's the soil or just timing.

Anyway, I'd love to hear if anyone else has tried their mix or if you've got any tips on how to use it better. Maybe I should be sifting it first? What's worked for you?
