So, I've been struggling with my camellia bonsai for a while and I think I might have figured out what's been going wrong. I had it in akadama mixed with some pumice, which worked fine for my junipers, but apparently not so much for camellias. The poor thing just didn't seem happy, and the leaves were a bit yellow. Turns out camellias prefer a more acidic environment. I switched to a mix with kanuma, and it’s made a world of difference. The leaves look much healthier now and I’m even seeing some promising buds as we’re in May! I should’ve known better, but I guess it’s all part of the learning curve, right? Anyone else had soil woes with their flowering bonsai?
