I know, it sounds strange talking about Chinese Elm leaves yellowing in spring, but hear me out. I bought a Chinese Elm bonsai last spring, and it was doing well until I noticed the leaves yellowing all of a sudden this spring. Initially, I was worried about overwatering. I didn't want to drown my tree, but the leaves were dropping like crazy. After a bit of digging around, I figured out that the soil I was using was retaining too much moisture. I had been watering it as if it were still in the nursery mix, which was a big mistake. Switching to a well-draining bonsai mix was a game-changer.

Also, I realized that my placement was off. Chinese Elms love sunlight, but I had mine in a spot with limited morning sun and heavy afternoon shade. Shifting it to a location where it got more consistent sunlight helped its recovery. Spring's been tricky this year with fluctuating temperatures, so I've also been keeping an eye on nighttime lows. I've started checking soil moisture levels before watering, and now my elm is sprouting those vibrant green leaves again. It's been a learning curve, but seeing it bounce back gives me hope for a lush summer canopy.
