I've had my Ficus retusa for two years, and I swear figuring out the right lighting has been the biggest challenge. It's like every room has its own opinion on how much light to provide! Initially, I had it sitting by a north-facing window, thinking it would get enough indirect light, but the poor thing started looking like it wanted to take a permanent nap. Leaves yellowing and falling off, branches looking sad. I was worried I’d lose it.

Moved it to a south-facing window, and it was a bit too much, with the summer sun practically baking it. The leaves started crisping up at the edges, and I could almost hear it begging for mercy. My solution was sheer curtains to diffuse the light. This seems to balance things nicely, no more sad leaves or crispy edges, and the growth has been more even. The trick was in finding that sweet spot where it received enough light without turning into plant jerky.

Also, I’ve been trying out LED grow lights during the evening hours. I got a clip-on full-spectrum LED that's adjustable so I can position it just right. It’s been a game changer. My ficus is looking perkier, and I’m finally seeing new leaf buds pushing through. So if you’re struggling with light for your indoor bonsai, experimenting is key. Keep moving it around, trying different setups, and watch for your tree’s reaction. If your leaves are talking to you, listen!
