Last summer, I decided to re-pot my Acer palmatum (Japanese Maple) into something a bit more fitting. I originally had it in a plain terracotta pot, but I wanted something that really complemented the tree's delicate structure and vibrant leaves. After some digging around, I found a glazed, oval-shaped pot in a muted blue tone. The color felt like it echoed the sky and water, elements that always make me think of serenity, and man, did it make the leaves pop!
I was super excited about the new pot, but here's where I hit a snag. I had no idea that the pot didn’t have enough drainage holes. I ended up with root rot because I didn’t check beforehand (rookie move, I know). A few folks on here suggested drilling extra holes. I gave it a try, and it wasn’t too hard, but it was a nerve-racking experience. Lesson learned: always check drainage before planting! Now, the maple's doing well, but it was a close call. Anyone else have a favorite pot style or material for their maples?
